The term BUILDING PHYSICS identifies physical processes occurring inside and outside a building. In particular, the term identifies the studies and technical evaluations which involve the interaction between the structure of the building, its occupancy (its use), and the environment in which it resides.

In order to evaluate the interaction between the building and the environment virtual models are produced with the help of special softwares. The building models are placed in the virtual environment and, through dynamic simulations, Building Physics are produced.

Through this modeling process it is possible to assess:

- the energy performance of the building or of any area within it, extrapolating performance data, energy, temperature, consumption, humidity, mean any amount of time (hour, day, month, year);

- the impact of natural and artificial ventilation inside and outside the building or any area, in order to reduce and / or improve the energy impact and comfort for the employed;

- te contribution of natural lighting in the environments, to maximize comfort and enCFDergy saving;

- the detailed analysis of air movement through Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis (or CFD), which allows the visual study and display of temperatures and air velocity.


This discipline, although recent, has now become crucial for the evaluation of cost-effectiveness in design of new buildings. It also allows to easily identify the economic impact, and thus the cost-benefit, of renovations for existing buildings.
